Carmenere is rarely encountered in the vineyards of Bordeaux today but was widely cultivated in the Medoc during the early 18th century and, with Cabernet Franc, established the reputations of the properties in that area. It was discovered in Chile in 1991 and now makes very fine wines combining the charm of Merlot with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon. Just delicious.
